Full-Time Grounds Maintenance Worker
Job Description
The grounds maintenance worker at Fort Rucker, AL, will maintain the outdoor areas around buildings and common spaces. They will mow lawns, trim hedges, edge walkways, prune plants, apply treatments to lawns and plants, plant new greenery, clean up litter, remove snow, and maintain and repair outdoor fixtures. They may also help with road and building repairs and clean various facilities and vehicles.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Cut and trim grass and weeds in the vicinity of all hot refuel systems.
- Perform vegetation control and elimination around fuel buildings and facilities by cutting or removing grass and weeds.
- Install, warn, and direct signs or replace them as needed.
- Perform operational maintenance on equipment.
- Conduct routine maintenance and minor repairs on assigned buildings, such as sweeping, mopping, cleaning, and replacing windows, light bulbs, or locks.
- Perform minor painting of equipment and facilities.
- Conduct general housekeeping tasks like removing trash, paper, and debris.
- Ensure fire extinguishers are maintained in serviceable condition and replace or change them when needed or upon expiration.
- Assist in clean-up, containment, and complete disposal of contaminated materials and soil, including help with spills or clean-up procedures and digging dirt if required.
- Perform other associated tasks as directed.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience
- Must be a high school graduate or have a higher level of education.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write in English.
- The individual must be able to pass a background check and have a valid driver's license.
Pay and Benefits
The hourly rate is $14.31. The position is full-time and includes union benefits and a pension plan.

Aircraft Refuelers
Job Description
The aircraft refuelers who will be working in Fort Rucker, AL, need to be qualified to carry hazardous materials on public roads, handle refueling and refueling tasks using equipment such as mobile fuel trucks and hoses, and operate fixed fueling systems. They must also know safety rules for fueling aircraft and maintaining fuel equipment. Refuelers might also need to record fuel amounts and keep their work logs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Conduct the necessary tests to determine fuel quality, including water content, temperature, and API gravity.
- Check the pumping systems for the correct operating pressure and unusual noises.
- Clean strainers and filters, and service the “aqua-glo” unit.
- Perform fueling and documentation as required for hot fueling of aircraft (aircraft engines in operation) and cold refueling of aircraft (aircraft engines not in operation).
- Defuel aircraft as necessary using appropriate hoses and adapters.
- Receive, store, and/or transfer fuel from and to fuel storage tanks and fuel tankers.
- Fill fuel tanks as necessary, perform grounding, conduct safety checks, and connect hose to load and unload fuel.
- Monitor the process, record all meter readings, prepare necessary documentation, and report to supervision.
- Transport fuel from one field to another.
- Perform safety checks as prescribed by Company or Department of Transportation regulations on all vehicles before commencing operation.
- Other duties may be assigned.
Education and Experience
- Must be a high school graduate or have a higher level of education.
- Must be able to speak, read, and write English.
- The individual must be able to pass a background check and have a clean driving record.
Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations
- Commercial Driver’s License Class A or B, with X and Tanker Endorsements
- Department of Transportation (DOT) Physical Certification
Pay and Benefits
The pay is based on the Union Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA). The CBA includes benefits, a matching 401(k), and a pension. The starting pay is $23.17 per hour, with increased rates at one year ($25.03) and two years ($26.97).
